Cultural festivals celebrated in Malaysia are valued for one important reason: their predictability. People already know what to expect when they balik kampung to celebrate the festivities with their loved ones, and it is precisely this anticipation to experience the familiar that only comes once a year which keeps such cultural celebrations alive. To usher in the Year of the Ram next Chinese New Year, SCS takes on the ambitious task of upgrading a familiar festival classic, the pineapple tart.
For generations, this sweet and savoury bite-sized pastry is a must have for family reunions during the Chinese New Year and whose quality make for impassioned conversations between middle-aged aunties wanting to perfect their own pineapple tart recipes. The shape and size of these delectable treats differ from region to region but none have dared deviate from time-honoured proportions that produce the tarts’ distinctive flavour and aroma. It doesn’t take a connoisseur to know that the pastry itself plays an equally important role as the pineapple jam filling. Just as it is inconceivable to celebrate Chinese New Year without these tarts, the creation of buttery, fluffy, and crusty pineapple tarts is impossible without quality butter, like SCS butter.
